YANNI FIGHTS CANCER ONE MUSTACHE AT A TIME
Long after distinguishing himself as a top-selling adult contemporary artist in more than 20 countries around the world, Yanni is still widely associated with his iconic mustache. This month, Yanni is teaming up with the charity Movember to raise awareness and money for cancers affecting men.
Every Movember (the month formerly known as November), men are challenged to start the month clean-shaven and grow a moustache. The moustache becomes the hairy ribbon for men’s health and the guys growing them become a walking billboard for 30 days. The growth of a new moustache sparks hundreds of conversations about the seemingly taboo topics of men’s health and prostate cancer.
This November will mark the 4th Movember campaign in the US, which will continue to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and LIVESTRONG. In 2009, over 28,000 men grew moustaches to raise more than $3.2 million for our beneficiary partners. Yanni is challenging men and women around the globe to register to join the campaign at www.Movember.com. Fans can also visit Yanni’s MoSpace page to register as part of his team. Those who can’t grow their ‘stache are encouraged to show their support by sponsoring the Mo-growing efforts and donating funds to support the PCF and LIVESTRONG.
November also marks the return of Yanni as you know him best. The Grammy award winning pianist and composer returns to PBS on Nov 26th to premiere Yanni: A Living Legacy. This special will be the public’s first introduction to Truth of Touch, Yanni’s first instrumental studio album since 2003’s Ethnicity, due February 8th.
