High grade, low grade, well or poorly differentiated and Gleason’s score. What is the significance in prostate cancer.

Here’s the question:

I enjoy reading and listening to your perspective on Prostate cancer. You mention High grade or Low grade types of cancer. I presume this pertains to the Gleason score? Or are there other factors involved?

Here’s the answer:

Assuming the cancer is no where else and is confined to the prostate as best as can be determined (Negative bone scan and neg CT scan) then the most important factor to consider in the prognosis of a patient with prostate cancer is the Gleason’s score.
