
A lot of patients will come to my office after a positive biopsy of the prostate and after weeks of research tell me they have decided to have their prostate removed by the “laser.”
Well with all the stuff out there it stands to reason that things can get confusing.
The only laser treatment for the prostate is for obstructive voiding symptoms of a benign nature. If you want to remove the prostate for cancer it has to be “removed.” A procedure such as the Greenlight laser prostatectomy is only makes a channel in the prostate to help the male void better, i.e. make a slow stream strong…spell your name in the snow, knock the bark of a tree, turn gravel over in the parking lot and ….

There is a doc in NYC who says they use MRI guidance and then laser ablation of the caner… is this new?

The GreenLight Laser opens a channel through the prostate due to benign enlargement of the prostate. With this procedure there is a very low likelihood of incontinence or impotence. A radical prostatectomy is for prostate cancer and the entire gland is removed. This in turn has a high percentage of potentially affecting erections and continence.
