From routine physicals 27 months apart, my PSA went from 3.1 to 5.2. So, my internist sent me to the urologist. Today, the urologist reported to me a PSA of 4.5 and a Free PSA of 24.9, put me on a 2-week course of Cipro, and wants another lab test in 2 weeks. I realize you cannot give medical advice, but how do I find out where these numbers lie in the scheme of things?

hi and hope all goes well for you. at the end of the day the only way you really know if there is a prostate cancer is to do a biopsy. i however would be very encouraged by your PSA returning to below 4 and near your baseline. good luck and keep the lines of communication open with your doctor. ps…i did a short post today on the free PSA table and you can plug in your number to see the percentages. a free PSA of 25 or so is favorable but not “stand alone.” jm
