Go fishing for Prostate Cancer

NSW Primary Industries Minister, Steve Whan is encouraging all NSW fishers to throw in a line in support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia on Sunday 11 April 2010.
“The Pirtek Fishing Challenge is a great way to promote an important cause through one of Australia’s favourite recreational activities,” Minister Whan said.
“In NSW alone more than one million recreational fishers hit the water every year.
“With 20,000 new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed each year this event offers an excellent excuse to enjoy a day of fishing while raising money for a very worthwhile cause.
“The event last year raised $100,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and it would be wonderful to see an even greater result this year.”
The Pirtek Fishing Challenge will be held nationally between 6am and 6pm on Sunday 11 April 2010 and offers anglers in excess of $110,000 in cash and prizes.
Each state will be allocated target species the evening before the competition. NSW will be allocated three saltwater and one inland native species.
On the day of the competition, entrants are encouraged to catch, measure, photograph and release the fish.
Mr Whan said that there was a range of categories including a junior and a club section to ensure the event caters for everyone.
“Fishing is a great day out for the whole family,” he said.
“Whether you live in coastal or inland NSW, I encourage everyone to enjoy a day of fishing on April 11.”
Entrants are reminded a NSW Recreational Fishing Licence is required for all types of fishing activity in NSW.
