John in support groups it is often hard for the facilitators to ensure that individual biases to treatment choices do not dominate discussions.
These are prostate cancer survivors and their opinions carry weight with those men seeking treatment. It is a tough line to control and most of the facilitators I have come in contact with do a great job.
There is a universal bias towards treating physicians not asking questions on sexual practices and providing enough details on treatment after effects and how to overcome them. . I have proposed, to the survivor support groups, that treating physicians are not psychologists nor mind readers and it would be a good odea to go to appointsments armed with questions they want answered.
Initially I, as the wife of a prostate cancer survivor, was upset by the lack of information our treating physician provided but like Penelope, have realized that to move a large object/problem there are smart ways to go about this!!
